Barrel Aged Cocktail Recipes
When I first started the site in 2011, I promised that I would provide you with some fun, delicious recipes to use for your barrels. Below are a few tasty concoctions that either I have created or customers have submitted. I will be submitting more in the near future, so check back often.
· Vanilla Bourbon: This is my favorite concoction to date and it is incredibly simple. I used a 2 Liter barrel and filled it with a 1.75 liter of W.L. Weller. I enjoy Weller since it is a wheated bourbon, which works for my taste pallet since wheat is generally sweeter than rye based bourbons. Rye based bourbons are spicier, which works for millions of other customers, but I am a wheat fan. Anyhow, I filled the barrel with Weller then simply dropped one vanilla bean in the barrel. I waited about two weeks then poured myself a small glass on the rocks. Needless to say, my barrel was empty within a month and I have my second round of Weller aging as we speak.
· A customer, Josh Williams, was kind enough to shoot me an email with his barrel experience. Sounds delicious! “I wanted to update you on my barrel. I bought a bottle of Bulliet bourbon. I took two apples and cut them into thin slices so they fit. I know these will be a pain to get out but I think it will be worth it. I put a tablespoon of cinnamon and two tablespoons on maple syrup. So far it has been three weeks and it is tasting amazing! I am going to let it sit for another four weeks and then use it at a party.” Josh, if you are reading this, please let me know how the party goes in four weeks and how your guests like your apple cinnamon maple bourbon!
